Without a slicing tool for the larger track textures I do not have time to hand slice them all. The programming knowedge I do have just isn't good enough for me to get the tool I was working on to operate correctly.
And if the editor is a not updated to allow for the new features then there is no point in making a track, really. Plus it sounds like we will have to make a regular track due to this backwards compatibility?
Maybe I am missing the intention of the backwards compatibility, but when I have the tools to build a revo track then I'll start. |

I'm not sure but I think that we will eventually have an editor that will go far beyond EVO2 but the game itself will still be able to use EVO2 maps. Correct me if I'm wrong. This isn't a bad Idea, We are just waiting for the tools to make the better maps. Thicker forests, real/thicker grass/scrub, better textures, animated grass/fields. More/heavier building population. Night sky's and other features that I haven't touched. DX9.0C support maybe? Maybe it's too much to ask for. Oh, I forgot to mention a more realistic AI. One that feels a hit when you do it and maybe loses control something like Flatout series. |

Well, another question:
Why are peoples attitudes so negative, to our project? _________________ ŃŲ_Masa RS-E

Hm... I think because there was more hype and promise then we accomplished. Look at the improvements list for example, it created excitement and expectations... but I guess we didn't fulfill it.
People are still waiting for a new track editor to support all the new features of revo so proper tracks can be made. I think we just set more expectations then we could accomplish. In turn people now give us negative feedback. _________________ RG -

Well, have to set targets, and, it isnt the end yet, it is just going slow.
Upretirement track is making editor for Mac, I have tought that maybe we should work with him together, maybe the editor could be ported for other platforms as well, and maybe it would be now easy to include new features in it. _________________ ŃŲ_Masa RS-E

So I guess everyone ran away after a year or so now? After I keep thinking about at times when I lay in bed trying to sleep I think. What if Revo ever did finish would people really come back. Or will it never be finished or good enough to even get finished. -- Irrelevant comments of other members removed --
For me I moved on to Gaming on consoles (Also in Tournaments for racing on consoles), and doing 3D modeling for myself until I finally start putting my 3D models up forsale. (Just to lazy to get a paypal account then I would be set) _________________

Without someone editing the exe, it's nigh impossible to make any decent progress. Truck makers could make more trucks but that's about it. As a track maker, I'm waiting til the tracks are improved before I begin making anything Revo, instead of retro-fitting an Evo2 track into Revo. _________________ Turn off the windshield wipers, they don't work, they're just making it worse... |

Revo is a project which will keep going under development. I doubt it will ever have a finish because then we remember of something else to do and update.
Right now, it's being hold back by it's exe, in my opinion. It needed some edit and probably changing game engine... but for that, we need someone with the skills. _________________ Some say he's a robot and he's programmed only to drive... All we know, he's called Moutinho. |

The case is that, the "project", won't give anything as ready for us. Because the "project", are the members, and if members are not being active, the project won't go forward. Nobody can make this alone, no programmers, or anyone else. Teamwork is needed, if you want to reach the target.
So, if you/we want it to go forward, everyone should participate. Everyone are expecting someone else to do the thing.
At programming side, I understand the case. There is no programmers that have enough interest for the project, and without programmers, also everyone else are a bit limited to go forward. And programming also needs large knowledge. This makes that there is no many amateur programmers, or those that there are, aren't skilled enough or they aren't interested of our project enough to participate.
Also bad thing is this negative effect that the new member has caused. He is from different culture, his english skills maybe are not as good as your americans, but do you really have to make so big number of it? He is trying to do his best. RF have publicly requested all bugs to be reported, maybe he have taken the rule a bit too literally. I understand that his behaving on the forums maybe isn't the best possible, but you could really tolerate a little more. He is anyway doing good work.
At very begin, one goal that revo had, was to take good custom tracks, and trucks, mate them together. Add-ons that "everyone" would have, so using them in multiplayer would have been more fair. At the moment, all customs users are automatically disrespected, and thought as some level of "cheaters", or as people who take the easy way. As far as people had this logic, it wasn't fun to use customs in multiplayer. This is one thing that could be done without programmers.
For other things, you have to wait till good programmers with some level of interest join in the team. This may take long, if it ever happens. One way is that, someone who is interested of evo2 enough, and is studying programming joins in the team.
I have many times lately thought this thing. And I am getting in that conclusion, that if we can't find active programmers in reasonable time, we could simply play and mod other games. For example the Rigs of Rods project is going very well forward. It has already now some possibilities to replace revo, and someday it will be a very good replacement for it. Why to invent same thing twice, if it exists somewhere, we could just as well go for it. I am noticing that many people are wanting to hang on Evo2/Revo, only because it is Evo2/Revo. The name is very strong for many Evo2 players. I think that Evo2 can and it will be replaced one day, by some other, and better simulation/game. We tried to do it by ourselves, but our team isn't attractive enough for new active members, all of them are somewhere else.
One way would be taking an existing open source project, and slightly editing it for our needs. Rigs of rods could be the one, this kind of project if people think that the current ror is too far from that what you are looking for. This would be much easier way, than programming again the whole game.
I also now inform, that I am going to leave for next year. My time will be very limited, I don't have time to participate in Revo project anymore as much as in the past.
These are mine opinions, you can tell yours. _________________ ŃŲ_Masa RS-E

Yeah it sure has, unfortunatley I am unable to go further with my sky textures which are basically finished without an updated exe to suit them from Freaky. I spoke with him on msn a little while back but havent heard anything from him since then, I'm guessing he is pretty busy with school.
I've currently been filling my free time by completing my track project, outside of that I dont have anything revo in the works. _________________ Chachoze |
